The Gospel

What is the Gospel?

The word gospel simply means “good news.”
The central message of the Bible is the gospel, or good news, about the person and work of Jesus Christ. In 1 Corinthians 15:1–4, Paul states a great summary of the gospel: the man Jesus is also God, or Christ, and died on a cross in our place, paying the penalty for our sins; three days later He rose to conquer sin and death and give the gift of salvation to all who believe in Him alone for eternal life.
The Gospel Is Jesus!

Did you notice 2 crutical things here?
1.
We are sinners.
2. Jesus saves us from the punishment we deserve because of our Sin against God.
As soon as we forget either of these we fail to understand this great gospel.

For example:
1. If I don’t acknowledge that I am a sinner then I don’t need saving and therefore Jesus means nothing. I won’t feel the joy of how great forgiveness of sins through Jesus is.
2. If I don’t acknowledge that Jesus is my saviour I will be overcome with the guilt (Pride – I’m not good enough) of my Sin or start to live as though I need to be a good person in order to win God’s favor and could even become judgmental because I may start to think I am better then others because of the way I live (Pride – I’m really great).

There is plenty more to say on this.
